Learn More | What is TrustToolbar?
TrustToolbar consists of a number components interacting to achieve
a secure and trusted commercial infrastructure on the Internet.
The TrustToolbar Plug-in, a free Internet Explorer browser enhancement,
provides end users with a common sense way to navigate the web.
It also provides security and trust by identifying the company behind
the website - achieved through the user friendly display of the
company name, country and company logo on the plug-in interface.
Websites are validated and unique digital certificates are issued
and placed in the commercial directory. The digital certificate
is a standardised data file contains their digitally signed company
details. The user's TrustToolbar Plug-in retrieves the digital certificate
from the commercial directory, validates its integrity and displays
its contents on the secure TrustToolbar interface.
Because company details are validated, both companies and consumers
can be assured that only legitimate companies appear within the
TrustToolbar system.
Current TrustToolbar stats:
- TrustToolbar Plug-in users may navigate the web using over 10,000
of the world's best known brands.
- TrustToolbar Plug-in users may search the companies only database
- currently consisting of over 5 million
commercial websites.
- TrustToolbar Plug-in users may identify the entity behind over
15 million websites when surfing the web.
This makes the TrustToolbar directory the largest on the web!

Why is TrustToolbar needed?
TrustToolbar bridges the gap between the online virtual world and
the physical world. It brings the same usability, intellectual property
rights, brand usage, confidence, trust and security that we have
long benefited from in the physical world to the web.
TrustToolbar Backbone Technology
The TrustToolbar system utilises the core technology of Public Key
Infratstructure (PKI). This proven security technology encompasses
the generation and management of digital certificates (conforming
to the ITU X.509 Digital Certificate standard). These digital certificates
contain the website owner's corporate details, and when issued result
in a website becoming TrustToolbar enabled. This is essential to
providing customers with trust and confidence in the identity of
the company behind the website.
TrustToolbar utilises PKI technology to ensure that the digital
certificate is integral (it has not been tampered with). If the
digital certificate is a victim of tampering, it will fail validation
by the TrustToolbar Plug-in. More information on the core digital
certificate technology behind digital certificates is available
in a free guide to an Introduction
to Digital Certificates.
